PRISON & MINISTRY

I THE LORD HAVE CALLED YOU [THE MESSIAH] FOR A RIGHTEOUS PURPOSE AND IN RIGHTEOUSNESS; I WILL TAKE YOU BY THE HAND AND WILL KEEP YOU; I WILL GIVE YOU FOR A COVENANT TO THE PEOPLE [ISRAEL], FOR A LIGHT TO THE NATIONS [GENTILES], TO OPEN THE EYES OF THE BLIND, TO BRING OUT PRISONERS FROM THE DUNGEON, AND THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS FROM THE PRISON

ISAIAH 42: 6, 7

Douglas MacDonald

Douglas MacDonald is Chairman of the Rutherford Correctional Center Community Resource Council. In addition, he is a member of the 096 Chaplaincy Ministry that supports the chaplains at the Rutherford Correctional Center and the Rutherford County Jail. He was also awarded Volunteer of the Year at the Rutherford Correctional Center in 2007.

It is our desire to impart to these men, while they are in prison, the love of God and the same life that God has imparted to us through Jesus His Son, and that through God’s help, they will have developed within themselves a strong foundation that will enable them to stand in the midst of whatever trial or temptation may come their way upon their release. Our prayer is that these same men will in turn be the ministers who will cause others to come into the kingdom of God with great joy and thankfulness.

We have had the privilege of being involved with helping inmates at the Rutherford Correctional Center for the past twenty-four years, the Western Youth Institution for the past twenty years, and the Marion Correctional Institution for one year. We also have the privilege of bringing from six to thirteen inmates each week to our church services.

As Paul states in II Corinthians 1:3-4, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of sympathy and the God of every comfort, Who comforts us in every trouble, so that we may also be able to comfort those who are in any kind of trouble or distress, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
